Civitavecchia is the port city for Rome. Rome has always been and remains the Eternal City. With its splendid churches, ancient monuments and palaces, spacious parks, tree-lined boulevards, fountains, outdoor cafés and elegant shops, Rome is one of the world’s most attractive cities. Among the most famous monuments is the Colosseum where spectators watched combats between muscled gladiators and ferocious animals. Stop to see the remains of the Forum, once a political and commercial center. Rome’s squares were enhanced with such imposing structures as the Vittorio Emanuele Monument and grandiose fountains like the Fontana di Trevi. Awe at Christendom’s most magnificent church, the Sistine Chapel. The busy square Piazza Venezia is easily recognized by its imposing Vittorio Emanuele II Monument. Take a stroll to Rome's famous Trevi Fountain. Vatican City is the site of lovely St. Peter's Square and St. Peter's Basilica, where for 200 years, Renaissance masters worked on its design and created an unparalleled masterpiece. Visit Vatican Museum.
From Naples visitors can explore the rugged Amalfi coast, Italy's most romantic stretch of coastline. Near Amalfi is the resort of Positano, where visitors enjoy strolling through streets and shopping in small boutiques. Take an excursion to legendary Pompeii, an ancient Roman city covered and preserved by the debris from the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The monuments of this city are considered to be among the finest of any ancient city in Europe, and visitors can spend a day here learning about life in a Roman town during the first century A.D. The Cathedral of San Gennaro, a fine medieval building, has one chapel containing the tomb of Charles of Anjou, while another houses the cathedral's gold and silver treasure. Among the Christian underground burial vaults discovered in an area of suburban heights, the Catacombs of San Gennaro can be visited. Capodimonte Park - a well-kept tropical park - has a royal palace built by Charles III in 1738 that now houses Naples' picture gallery, the National Museum of Capodimonte.
Known as the "Island of Love" since the days of the Roman Empire, Capri offers stunning views, dozens of international cafes, fine Mediterranean restaurants and sophisticated resort shopping. Enjoy a boat trip around the coast to witness the hypnotic beauty of the Blue Grotto.

Calvi, with its long sandy beach, boarded by parasol pine-trees, is dominated by a Genoese citadel planted on a promontory with the small town below, extending along a waterfront, bustling with fishing boats and yachts. Not surprising its idyllic setting is so attractive for ships of all sizes.
Set in the heart of one of the world's most beautiful bays, Villefranche-sur-Mer sits on the steps of a natural amphitheatre - the terraced hills of the Riviera - gazing out over the sea. The plentiful sunshine of the Côte d'Azur, reflected in the enclosed bay, has given Villefranche-sur-Mer a warmth and climate all of its own and its famous rich, exotic vegetation. Long a spectator to centuries of history, Villefranche-sur-Mer has welcomed civilzations and has a rich heritage to show for it: the old city with its picturesque narrow streets, the mysterious "Rue Obscure", the Chapel Saint-Pierre, decorated by Cocteau, the fortified Port, and, last but not least, the magnificent Citadel built in 1557 by the Duke of Savoy. Today, those massive and majestic walls harbour the Town Hall, an open air theatre surrounded by gardens, three museums and a Congress Centre. Villefranche-sur-Mer is a rich and growing city situated very closely to Nice and Monaco. It is a city with very special character, and the warmth and charm of a fishing village from a bygone age.
Marseille is a vibrant, cosmopolitan port in the Provence region of France. Craggy mountains provide a spectacular backdrop. As a Mediterranean melting pot, the port virtually rubs shoulders with intimate, picturesque old harbor, the Vieux Port. Packed with watercrafts, this is the heart of Marseille. Two fortresses guard the harbor: Fort Saint Nicolas and Fort Saint Jean. Several vantage points offer spectacular views, including the impressive Basilica Notre Dame de la Garde - a prominent landmark overlooking the city that is crowned by a monumental, gilded statue of Virgin Mary. Marseille boasts numerous fine museums well worth a visit. Sitting at one of the many outside cafes or strolling the streets of the old port area lets you experience the unpretentious charm of this city. Other sights include Chateau d'If - a 16th century fortress-turned-prison; Basilica St-Victor - Marseille's oldest church with the appearance of a fortress; and La Canebiere - a broad boulevard with everything from hotels to cafes and shops.
Mahon is a town known since antiquity for its natural harbor. Its coastline includes beautiful natural coves, rocky cliffs, and long beaches. Menorca is an open-air museum with archaeological remains giving evidence of Mediterranean cultures of thousands of years ago. Traces of English rule remain, especially in the design of tall houses with sash windows overlooking the harbor. Watersports are most popular of the wide range of leisure activities available. Sail boat rentals are available at numerous beaches and a golf course is located in Son Park. Menorca was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993 - an acknowledgement of the island's environmental importance and artistic and cultural heritage. Santa Maria Church, located in Plaza de la Constitucion, was founded in 1287 and rebuilt in neo-classical style in the 18th century. Its 19th-century organ is one of the world’s largest, with 3,004 pipes. Sa Mesquida and Cala del Pilar are the two best beaches.
Barcelona, the self-confident and progressive capital of Spain, is a tremendous place to be. Though it boasts outstanding Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings, and some great museums – most notably those dedicated to Picasso and Catalan art – it is above all a place where there's enjoyment simply in walking the streets, stopping in at bars and cafés, drinking in the atmosphere. A thriving port and the most prosperous commercial centre in Spain, it has a sophistication and cultural dynamism way ahead of the rest of the country. In part this reflects the city's proximity to France, whose influence is apparent in the elegant boulevards and imaginative cooking. But Barcelona has also evolved an individual and eclectic cultural identity, most perfectly and eccentrically expressed in the architecture of Antoni Gaudí. Scattered as Barcelona's main sights may be, the greatest concentration of interest is around the old town (La Ciutat Vella). These cramped streets above the harbor are easily manageable, and far more enjoyable, on foot. Start, as everyone else does, with the Ramblas.

Suites are spacious and well appointed, Staff is gracious & accomodating with a smile! Restaurants have unique and varied menu's ★★★★★ February 22

Pros: Suites are spacious and well appointed, Staff is gracious & accomodating with a smile! Restaurants have unique and varied menu's

Cons: The temperatures were a bit too cold in one restaurant-but the good news is, no one in my group returned with a flu bug-which maybe the cold helped to prevent!

Wonderful service. Took care of my dietary issues. Large cabins. Plenty of space never felt crowded. Loved having different pool areas. Never looking for a chair. Many whirlpools on each deck. ★★★★★ November 17

Pros: Wonderful service. Took care of my dietary issues. Large cabins. Plenty of space never felt crowded. Loved having different pool areas. Never looking for a chair. Many whirlpools on each deck.

Cons: Minor would be nice to have more hooks in the cabin, a clothesline in the shower just minor details.

Cons: I did not care for the Asian restaurant. The dishes were sub-par and service a bit off. The decor however cool.

Food, spacious cabins, the Explora team, the late night port departures, spacious ship that felt uncrowded ★★★★★ August 24

Pros: Food, spacious cabins, the Explora team, the late night port departures, spacious ship that felt uncrowded

Cons: Brindisi- not a great port.

Review: This was my very first time sailing with Explora, and I was truly impressed. The ship strikes the perfect balance of elegant luxury with a laid-back, welcoming vibe. Every single crew member went above and beyond to make sure we were having the best experience possible. The food? Absolutely excellent. The Marketplace offered a wide variety of fresh, flavorful options, and every meal felt like a treat. Our Ocean Terrace suite was spacious, spotless, and designed for comfort—the walk-in closet/vanity area and walk-in shower were so well thought out. It felt more like staying in a high-end hotel than being on a ship. What stood out most was how uncrowded the ship felt. Even on a sea day, we never had to search for a lounge chair or a dining table, and dinner reservations were easy to get. We rarely even shared an elevator with anyone, and there were no waits for boarding tenders—it all felt effortless. The entertainment was classy, polished, and had the feel of Broadway productions—such a refreshing change from the typical cruise shows. I would highly recommend Explora Journeys to anyone who wants the refined luxury of a high-end vacation without the feel of formal cruising. It’s an experience that makes you feel relaxed, cared for, and completely indulged.

Everything was great ★★★★★ May 27

Pros: Everything was great

Cons: None

Review: The ship is amazing and the staff is top notch!!!

Service, Decor, Passenger to Crew Ratio, Spa, Pools, Spacious Cabins ★★★★ March 15

Pros: Service, Decor, Passenger to Crew Ratio, Spa, Pools, Spacious Cabins

Cons: Itineraries need work, certain ports should be reconsidered, Lectures, Demonstrations, and Classes should be offered

Review:

Explora I is a beautiful ship with a sophisticated neutral palette, designer decor, spacious ocean-facing suites, and plenty of space for you to truly feel as if you are sailing on your own personal yacht. The Infiniti jacuzzi was a favorite spot, as well as the tranquil Wellness Center of the Spa. The service was impeccable from the bartenders to the servers to the cabin host. There are several dining options to choose from-- whether you wish to eat in a fine dining experience, a buffet marketplace setting, or a snack/coffee bar, etc. No matter where you are on the ship, there are beautiful details throughout, and the crew to passenger ratio made it exceptionally easy to get whatever you wanted or needed as quickly as possible.

Explora prides itself on being a smaller ship, so that they can stop at "off-the-beaten-path" ports. In theory, this is a wonderful concept but some tweaking of the itineraries/ports is needed to better align themselves with the standards and expectations of luxury clientele paying a high price for these experiences. Particularly on sea days, it would have been wonderful to have more demonstrations, lectures, or even additional fitness classes offered. I think in due time, everything will fall into place so that the supremely relaxing ambiance and exceptional hospitality is matched with equally entertaining classes and interesting experiences.

Food, Service, Ambience, Decor, Climate, Attitude,Staff ★★★★★ March 2

Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, Decor, Climate, Attitude,Staff

Cons: Shipboard activities a bit sparse at times but I'm trying hard to find something less than complimentary to say.

Review: Exceeded all of our expectations. But know what you're getting - High end cruising, smaller ship (900pax capacity) that was only 2/3 full, unfailingly eager to please staff, very, very, very few kids clientele skews 65+. We went fore the shipboard experience and not the destination islands and were not disappointed. This is a cruise line for those looking to get away from it all and be pampered and do as little as possible.

Staff friendly and very helpful. Beautiful decor throughout the ship. Not crowded at public spaces. Entertainment excellent. ★★★★ February 6

Pros: Staff friendly and very helpful. Beautiful decor throughout the ship. Not crowded at public spaces. Entertainment excellent.

Cons: Some specialty restaurants just OK. Steak house was great.

Review: Disembarkation process was very organized. Buffet was better than expected. Staff was wonderful. Would not repeat the itinerary but definitely repeat Explora.

Nice size ship with excellent service and food. ★★★★ February 3

Pros: Nice size ship with excellent service and food.

Cons: Lacked enrichment speakers

Review:

The ship is beautiful, lovely interior space and expansive outdoor areas. The most knowledgeable and friendliest staff I have experience at sea. The food in all the restaurants was excellent.
Nice mix of passengers in ages and nationalities.  Average age a little lower than on some luxury ships.
If you have clients with mobility issues, I suggest you put them near the forward elevators.  The aft elevators do not go to deck 4 where some of the restaurants are.

everything was fantastic ★★★★★ January 23

Pros: everything was fantastic

Cons: no sports bar

Review: loved the Explora One and the cruise, food and service were beyond expectations. The staff was fantastic, completely service oriented. They could not do enough to assist you. Kumar who served as at Sakhura was fantastic and made it a great experience. There was also a female who served us on 1/16 at Anthology who was fabulous. I believe she was Philipino. Our room attendant Gabriel was also excellent The only suggestion would be to have an area where sporting events can be watched by a group. There were 12 of us from Buffalo and we wanted to watch the playoff game. Initially we were told it could only be shown in our rooms. At the last minute they arranged to show it in the chef's Kitchen which could accomodate us all. Would it be possible to put TVs into one lounge that could show sporting events.

Great food and drink ★★★★ December 3

Pros: Great food and drink

Cons: Entertainment average

Review: Very nice ship and cabins. Service was excellent.

As close to perfect as you can get ★★★★★ October 16

Pros: As close to perfect as you can get

Cons: None

Review: We are veteran luxury cruisers....Silversea, Seabourn, Oceania, Crystal. This was, by far, the best one yet.

New ship, Upscale interior, Well designed staterooms, Large veranda, King bed, Good food and selection, Good selection of different food venues available, Overall excellent service in stateroom restaurants and around the ship. ★★★★ September 20

Pros: New ship, Upscale interior, Well designed staterooms, Large veranda, King bed, Good food and selection, Good selection of different food venues available, Overall excellent service in stateroom restaurants and around the ship.

Cons: Dinner reservations start at 18:30, some earlier options would be nice. May be unavoidable but some docking berths were in ugly heavy industrial areas, especially Venice.

Review: Based on our one cruise experience Explora provided very good service and good value for the cost.

High end room, friendly crew, all enclusive ★★★ April 27

Pros: High end room, friendly crew, all enclusive

Cons: No store to buy souvenirs or small sundry items. Prices in Euros,

Review: Ship geared toward Europeans. Prices in Euros, meters, 24 hour clock etc. Only buffet eating or big dining rooms (which we couldn’t get into) nothing in between like a coffee shop with waiters. Food was good but not a lot of variety. No where on ship to get a snack if the buffet was closed. Lack of reasonably priced excursions. Lack of good entertainment at night and activities on sea days

lovely ship and crew was so hard working. ★★★★★ April 22

Pros: lovely ship and crew was so hard working.

Cons: chairs are low, dyson blow dryer pain to use and put away, wine list is poor, black napkins would be nice when wearing black, grab bar shhould be at the entrance of shower, chairs are low

Review: lovely lovely experience. Would have like to skip night in San Fran and maybe stopped in Seattle

Dining was superb, crew were extremely accommodating and friendly, lecture series was impressive, Entertainment director was very engaging. ★★★★★ April 2

Pros: Dining was superb, crew were extremely accommodating and friendly, lecture series was impressive, Entertainment director was very engaging.

Cons: Slippery deck near pool area, more activities onboard needed.

Review: The cabins were very well appointed and housekeeping was exceptional. The bedding was very comfortable with Frette linens and well-appointed comforts of home. I thought the entertainment to be unique onboard and varied and different from some of the other cruise lines that have more of a Las Vegas type of entertainment with singing and dancing. The shore excursions were well organized and a good value and gave a good overview of the destinations.

The ship is well appointed, beautifully decorated in every corner of the ship and the service, entertainment and food were top drawer ★★★★★ March 17

Pros: The ship is well appointed, beautifully decorated in every corner of the ship and the service, entertainment and food were top drawer

Cons: Although the shore excursions were wonderful, they were pricey and there could have been more variety, i.e. simple, shorter city tours.

Review: Explora I, MSC's new luxury ocean cruise line and first of six, has an elegant, modern decor throughout and with the 5 restaurants, excellent servers and first-rate performers, eight days aboard this ship went way too quickly! All restaurants were amazing, but Sakura was my favorite as I am still dreaming about the miso-glazed black cod and kiwi pavlova. We also enjoyed the luxury brand stores, but the staff at Cartier created a unique afternoon pairing wine and watches. We loved it so much we bought a Tank watch after the presentation by their dream team Cartier reps Rupesh & Scott and Jay, the sommelier. This was a really fun memory. Explora's tour guides are professional, knowledgeable and fun. In particular, we loved Cartagena, but the guide matched the destination with his vibrant and colorful personality. We were luck to have him for both of our days in Cartagena (2 days in each port was great for immersion). Each night, the entertainment blew us away. The level of talent is very impressive and we couldn't wait until the nest performance. Overall, Explora's new cruise line is a cut above the rest and we are so fortunate to have such wonderful memories while exploring Colombia and Panama.

like sailing on a large yacht, 4 beautiful pool areas -3 with eternity pools, outstanding food & service ★★★★ November 14

Pros: like sailing on a large yacht, 4 beautiful pool areas -3 with eternity pools, outstanding food & service

Cons: need more shade area in pool areas, wines/liquors included were limited in selection, Shipboard credits should be applied to cost of excursions when booked in advance, more info in advance about excursions, bathrooms need to be larger, especially in the upper category cabins.

Review:

Think elegant european sleek contemporary: you see the Italian influence everywhere-lots of marble, unique/eclectic flooring, lighting, furniture & furnishings. Crew were there to serve in a friendly & professional manner- excellent! Many were comfortable to interact with us and get to know us. First time on a lux mid-size ship that didn't have a main dining room. I wondered how that would be? We were extremely delighted with the fine dining options and food quality in them all. There are 5 speciality dining venues all seating 150 with no additional fees, two take advance reservations. The buffet/marketplace Emporium serves B/L/D, and is beyond any buffet I've ever experienced. Fresh oysters, lobster, shimp, handmade pastas & sauces, it appeared to be endless with something for everyone. Anthology was an additional charge, which we didn't try. Our cabin/suite was entry level (ocean terrace) which was elegant with a small balcony & adequate bathroom with walk-in shower, very comfortable walk-in closet. with vanity area. Included Illy coffee maker, kettle for hot tea, always refreshed still water, small fridge which they would stock as you wish including soft drinks & 2 bottles of liquor. Bottle of good champagne to welcome guests and a few nice gifts sprinkled in during turndown over the week. Unlike most cruise lines, Explora has decided to omit the evening 'show' for more of a nightclub entertainment focus in a beautiful large lounge -with a few excellent lead singers & accomplished 6 piece orchestra- along with the privilege of listening to pianist on a STEINWAY. Our cruise was not full-50-60% occupancy-so not sure how that will accomodate when the ship is full. They also brought on a superb speaker & world renowned violinist who we really enjoyed. Other lounges also featured light musical performers. There were a few daytime activities that seemed interesting-not nearly as many as on many cruise lines. Explora Journeys stressed a focus on wellness/well being aboard in their marketing. They did feature several stretching, meditation, workouts, as well as a fitness area with super equipment. There were steam, sauna, cold therapy to use in the spa during limited times on sea days, but more open on port days. As this cruise line is so new and itinerary is a work in progress, I believe the port 'experiences' can be improved upon. Advance details of what is needed, how long bus ride, time at destination, meal, etc. were not detailed which left some grumbling at times. Experiences/excursions are not included in pricing and they are priced a bit high, so expectation is also high. Seems Explora is priced right now to encourage travelers to book & experience their 'Brand' Value is in my mind remarkable.

Very cool to hear Andrea Bocelli's "Time to Say Good-bye" played throughout the ship when pulling out of each port... a beautiful Italian touch!
